George W. Bush (Present)
George W. Bush was born in 1946 and grew up in Houston
and Midland Texas. As a young man he was graduated from Yale University
and earned a Master's degree in business administration from Harvard.
After college he became a businessman, working in the oil and gas industries
near Midland. He also spent several years in the 1980's as a managing
partner in the Texas Rangers baseball team. After working on his father,
George Bush's, successful 1988 presidential campaign, he set his sights on a
political career. In 1994 he was elected governor of Texas, and he was
re-elected in 1998. As a Republican candidate, he was elected in 2000 to
the presidency.
Politically he adheres to conservative values similar to those expressed by
Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. He has termed his ideology "compassionate
conservatism," and stresses the need to include all Americans in the
prosperity currently enjoyed by the United States. He also promises to
overhaul America's education system, cut taxes, and institute needed Social
Security reform.
