Warren G. Harding 1921 - 1923
Warren G. Harding was born in 1865 in Marion, Ohio.
As a young man he worked as a newspaper publisher, but his real interests
were in politics. In 1914 he was elected as a Senator from Ohio after
serving as state Senator, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor of that state.
In 1921 he ran for President as a Republican and won by a landslide.
Harding presided over the country during an era of increased prosperity.
As President he cut taxes, increased the tariff, and tightened immigration.
However, his administration was plagued by scandals, as many of his subordinates
engaged in corrupt practices for personal profit. In 1923, while
visiting San Francisco, Harding died of a heart attack.
